Meet The Woman With 5000 Pairs Of Shoes

There is no gain stating the obvious that women are generally known to be materialistic and lush. They adore accessories like clothes, purses, jewelries and of course shoes.

Some say they are extravagant and luxurious, while, others say they are just being women. We won’t be discussing the generality of women because there is a particular character we are gazing our attention on. Imagine a lady in possession of over 5000 and 1500 shoes and purses respectively. Can you beat that?

She was quoted to have said “never dress down for the poor. They won’t respect you for it. They want their first lady to look like a million dollars” She went further to say people say "I am extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?"

The woman we are referring to is no other than Imelda Marcus, one-time First Lady of the Philippine. She was the wife of the notorious and massively corrupt leader of the Philippine, Ferdinard Marcus. A man history adjudged as one of the most corrupt leaders of all time. Well, Ferdinard is not our subject matter, but his wife Imelda is.

Imelda's Shoes

This woman was so thrilled with material possessions that she was dubbed the Iron Butterfly. Of course First Ladies around the world are generally known with lavish and mind blowing lifestyle. You all would remember the likes of Elearnor Roosevelt, Jacqueline Kennedy, Grace Mugabe and of course our own ex First Lady, Stella Obasanjo. But known of these names courted attention for earthly possession like Imelda Marcus. Her friends included controversial figures like Richard Nixon, Joseph Tito, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein and Fidel Castro. One of her excesses was sending a plane to pick up Australian White sand for a beach resort. Her property also included Jewel and 175-piece art collection.

She is often remembered as a symbol of excess. Her husband was stunned when she famously told him during a campaign period “that win or lose, we go shopping” When asked about her shoes, her response was “I didn’t have three or five thousand pairs of shoes. I had just one thousand and sixty” While in Britain she said of the Queen, “You know, not even your British Queen is called just Elizabeth-she is Elizabeth the second. There is only one Imelda.” Now that she is 85 years old, hope she has learnt from a famous quote her father once told her “never to love anything that cannot love you back”. What a woman!
